PLATFORM

  • HALTING OVER-DEVELOPMENT
    • Over-development is a crisis facing Hernando County. Kathleen believes in raising impact fees to lessen the financial burden on Hernando citizens.
  • AFFORDABLE HOUSING
    • As a case manager, Kathleen has worked with unhoused veterans looking for homes. She knows first-hand of the lack of affordable housing in Hernando and the need for more.
  • MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
    • Before becoming a teacher, Kathleen worked in the mental health field. She is passionate about increased funding and access to mental health services.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
    • The green spaces and, in particular, the Weeki Wachee Preserve, need to be protected. Halting the rezoning of these lands and increasing impact fees is a must.
  • EDUCATION
    • Kathleen is currently a Hernando County school teacher. She is committed to working collaboratively to protect teachers and better serve students and the community.

Kathleen Cummings was born and raised in Central Florida. She is currently a 12th grade English teacher at Springstead High School. Before Kathleen became a teacher, she spent 10 years as a case manager connecting her clients to housing and mental health services. Kathleen has worked as a behavioral interventionist for children with severe emotional disturbances. She has also worked with unhoused veterans and children in the foster care system.
